about

'The Incidents of Future Regret' (Digital only E.P.) takes its initial inspiration and title from the brutal events and bleak landscapes depicted in Benjamin Myers' novel 'Turning Blue', attempting to evoke the same sense of unease and trepidation but with the lens widened to see devastation on a macro scale.

A three-part story arc is presented here; its origins, in 'The Incidents', lie in acts of malice, violent and self-serving. Part 2, 'Of Future' depicts an acceptance of what has come before and the fallout and the retribution that follows. Part 3, 'Regret', is a slowly drawn out conclusion, a sorrowful lament for a future that is now corrupted and damaged beyond repair.

As is now abundantly clear, we are living through an unfolding ecological and environmental disaster. Europe is burning, the Gulf Stream is faltering, and a new migrant crisis is about to unfold. The future looks very bleak indeed and the near-universal regret is going to be unfathomable. This chaotic little EP is my small attempt to provide some form of artistic response to this.

At the heart of these modular based improvisations is Make Noise's digital tape sampler, the Morphagene, which is used here primarily to pay homage to Steve Reich and his phase-shifting pulse techniques. Within these pieces rhythms don’t stay static for long, unravelling and collapsing in on themselves as the swelling drones and unsettling samples wrestle for prominence.

This is a pay what you want release so feel free to download for free and if you like it then maybe check out my other records. Anything received for this release will be donated to the Room For Refugees charity.

Thanks as always to Claude Speeed and Timothy J. Jarvis for their encouragement to keep doing this.
